BSc (Hons) Interactive Media Design

The BSc (Hons) Interactive Media Design deals with the new creative opportunities that are arising as a result of interactive digital technologies. The aim is to produce graduates who have a thorough knowledge of the design, authoring and delivery of interactive media based on a human-centred design process.

You will gain an in-depth knowledge of Interaction Design and Narrative techniques alongside practical skills in 2D Animation, Sound and Video enabling you to produce interactive products such as DVDs, games, websites and responsive environments. You will gain skills in the area of Physical Computing, bringing machines out of their boxes and incorporating them in the world around us. You will have the opportunity of relevant work experience in year 3 through the Creative Computing Internship.

The tools used in the course are industry standard packages: The Adobe production and design Creative Suites, which includes Flash for 2D animation, Premiere and After Effects for Video production and post-production;; Protools for Sound Production and Sound Design. This course is aimed at aspiring digital media practitioners involved in the production of content, from DVD to mobile phones, games to interactive TV. As a graduate, you will have knowledge and skills in the whole spectrum of digital media, and mastery in at least one specific area. You will become a specialist in the area of your choice thanks to:

  • The choice of advanced classes in your specialist area.
  • The completion of group and individual projects in your specialist area.

The programme is divided into: three Media-specific streams, and an Interaction Design stream. The programme has been designed to accommodate advanced entry to Year 2 or Year 3 dependent on suitable entry qualifications.

Admission requirements.

Admission is offered into the first year, but is also possible directly in second or third year, with relevant qualifications. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, with a passion for creative technologies.

  • First year entry will normally be offered to applicants with relevant Highers (e.g. Art, design, photography. music, computing or, ideally, a combination of these) or equivalent.
  • Second year entry requires three relevant Advanced Highers or equivalent: three A levels, National Diploma, etc. Relevant subject areas include art and design, multimedia, e-media.
  • Third year entry will be offered to applicants who have completed a highly relevant degree (HND or equivalent) covering the core subjects of the programme.
